About String Family Players
String Family Players break down the stereotype that classical music is inaccessible by offering the audience an unforgettable experience as the members of the group connect with students through their music. This dynamic string quintet, founded by double-bassist David Young, is led by violinist Nancy Roth, and it is made up of two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass.
All Strings Considered
Age level: All ages
"All Strings Considered" is the String Family Players’ signature show. This performance serves as an introduction to the orchestral stringed instruments by demonstrating various techniques used to produce the characteristic string sound. The individual pieces within each program are chosen to fit the ages and musical familiarity of every audience. Each member of String Family Players is showcased with a solo piece, and the group plays together in an assortment of styles—from Renaissance to contemporary television, from classical to gypsy and jazz. Through fun listening games, the audience is challenged to recognize each instrument by ear alone or to identify a particular feature within the music. The program is designed to show the versatility of the string instruments and the greatness of all genres of music.
