GROUP TOURS

Frequently Asked Questions About the Center's Tourism Program

[top] How much do tours cost?

Self-guided audio tours of Walt Disney Concert Hall are FREE for adults, seniors, students and groups. Private Group guided tours are $15 per person for parties of 15 or more.

[top] How do I purchase tickets for self-guided audio tours?

Self-guided audio tours are FREE. Tickets are not necessary.

[top] How do I arrange for a guided group tour or group audio tour?

For parties of 15 or more, please call the Music Center Tour Department at 213.972.4399 and select option 3 for Group Tours.

[top] Why isn't the auditorium included in tours of Walt Disney Concert Hall?

The rehearsal schedule in the auditorium is such that we are not able to offer it as a part of the tour.

Thanks to the Concert Hall both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale doubled the number of performances they present. For them to do this requires a much more intensive rehearsal schedule. Additionally, the Concert Hall is host to many special events, and a working environment for several hundred people.

When creating the audio tour we explored ways to include the auditorium and we were unable to find an effective way to do so without impacting the art that is the reason for the Concert Hall itself.

The audio tour and group guided tours were created to inform people about the building as well as give visitors a brief overview of the Music Center. A video of the interior of the auditorium is on view in the lobby as well as along the tour route.

[top] How can I see the inside of the auditorium?

Currently the best way to view and experience the auditorium is through attending a performance.

Tickets to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angles Master Chorale are available by contacting each Resident Company directly.

[top] We would like a tour of Walt Disney Concert Hall in the evening prior to a concert. Why aren't tours available later in the day on performance evenings?

Currently tours are not available after 3 p.m. at Walt Disney Concert Hall. If your group is having a catered function in the Hall we do provide special evening tours on non-performance evenings.

For reservations and details about an evening tour to accompany your catered event please call 213.972.4399.

Balancing the needs of our public tour program with the operations of Walt Disney Concert Hall is challenging. The operations of the building involve two modes: tours and performances. The tours end at 3 p.m. with the last of the visitors out of the building by 4 p.m. The timing allows the dozens of ushers, operations, housekeeping and catering staffs to thoroughly secure, clean and prepare the building for the evening events & performances.

These activities create several operational and aesthetic challenges, none of which are conducive to late afternoon or evening tours.

[top] Our group has to plan a tour many months in advance, why is the tour schedule provided only two months at a time?

Scheduling tours in a working theatre and special event venue is a complex process. The priority of the Hall is that of a working performance venue. Events and performances can be scheduled at any time.

We provide a tour schedule two months in advance because we are best able to guarantee our tour commitments within that time frame. If your group has a request for a tour beyond two months we will record your request and notify you at least two months in advance if we are able to accommodate the tour request.

[top] We are an educational group/non-profit on a limited budget. Do you offer free tours?

Free tours of entire Music Center Campus are offered by the Music Center's volunteer docents The Symphonians.

Tours begin at the information kiosk located on the Music Center Plaza near the fountain and last approximately 60-75 minutes.

As performance schedules permit, the tour includes the Ahmanson Theatre, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and Mark Taper Forum, as well as an introductory tour of the lobby level of Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The complimentary tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are offered Tuesday - Saturday. Children/student groups may call to make a reservation.

Tour start times vary. Please call for daily schedules. Tours are also offered in Spanish and French by advance reservation. Please call 213.972.7483 for details.

[top] Is the tour accessible to visitors with disabilities?

Absolutely. Tours of Walt Disney Concert Hall are fully accessible. The tour includes three levels of the hall, the garden and aerial pathway. Floor materials are a combination of carpeting, travertine and wood and visitors transition to areas using ramps and elevators.

The audio tour wands are equipped with adjustable volume controls as well as wrist straps for easy use. The audio tour script is also available in large print upon advance request.

Fully accessible restrooms, including one family or unisex restroom are located in the lobbies.

Accessible parking is $8 for vehicles displaying valid, state-issued disability parking placards or license plates. Wheelchairs are not provided.

[top] If I have limited time how do you recommend I visit Walt Disney Concert Hall?
The self-guided audio tour is only 45 minutes of narration. If the audio tour is not an option we recommend you pick up the green brochure titled Architectural and Garden Highlights. We created the brochure as a way for visitors to independently explore the garden and lobby area of Walt Disney Concert Hall which are always open to the public.

On occasion there may be an event taking place but you are still welcome to walk around the exteriors of the building.

You will find the brochure along with maps and schedules in the brochure racks on the Plaza and in the lobby of Walt Disney Concert Hall.
