Alison Heimstead has created numerous original puppetry pieces and performed them in venues from Los Angeles to New York, including Museum of Jurassic Technology (L.A.), Great Small Works Spaghetti Dinner (N.Y.), Labapalooza, St Ann’s Warehouse – curated by Dan Hurlin and David Neuman (Brooklyn), Theater Dank's Puppet Festival (Chicago), Weisman Museum (Minneapolis), This past summer she toured her original feature length puppet adaptation of Erik Ehn’s text The Saint Plays to Open Eye Figure Theatre (Minneapolis).
She has collaborated as a scenic and puppet designer for Mycenaean – with Carl Hancock Rux performed at Brooklyn Academy of Music and Portland Institute for Contemporary Art – TBA Festival, Blood Wedding - with Juliette Carrillo and Ten Thousand Things which won top ten designs in 2007 from Best of the Boards, Minneapolis City Pages, and developed an intricate set for puppet production: Lead Feet and Nothing Upstairs with Susan Simpson and Manual Archives. She is currently working on creating a puppet odyssey of Darwin’s life and laboratory with playwright Deb Stein and Children’s Theatre Company (Minneapolis).
