Artsource® curriculum, developed by the Music Center, is designed to bring the expressive world of the arts into classrooms. Artsource allows a teacher to:

  • Present artistic models in dance, music and theatre to your students
  • Integrate the arts with other subject areas, such as Language Arts, Social Studies, History and Science
  • Explore a broad spectrum of multicultural art forms with students in the classroom
  • Guide students through varied levels of Standards-based lessons

Artsource® is the Music Center's Study Guide to the Performing Arts. It features more than 65 study units in dance, music and theatre for classroom use. It highlights well-known artists from diverse cultures and a piece of their artwork. Emphasizing the creative process, Artsource is designed to bring the expressive world of the arts into classrooms, K-8. Artsource helps students relate to universal themes, understand concepts and discover basic principles in math, science, social studies, language arts and health. The materials provide opportunities for critical and imaginative thinking, as well as instilling an appreciation for the arts.

Each Artsource® unit includes short summaries that provide historical and cultural background on selected artists and a description of the featured artwork. The work is illustrated with audio-visual materials and has three sample lessons guiding different levels of experience. Built on the components of the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework and arts standards, each lesson includes clear student outcomes, criteria for meaningful tasks and assessment questions. Sample rubrics and a large glossary accompany each unit of study.

Teachers can select a wide range of culturally diverse units in dance, music and theatre to bring to the classroom. Click any of the sections on the right to get started!
