Los Angeles, CA – The ballet company of Teatro alla Scala will not be coming to the 2007-2008 Dance at the Music Center season as originally announced. The company had been scheduled to dance Romeo and Juliet on July 1 and 2 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with special guest artist Diana Vishneva and La Scala star Roberto Bolle. However, these plans changed when the anticipated funding of the tour was not secured. The engagement will not be replaced by another company, and ticket holders are being notified regarding the matter.
"I am saddened that the tour will not happen as this is something I've been working on for two years," said Sergei Danilian, president of Ardani Artists, who had arranged the U.S. tour for La Scala. "La Scala advised us that the funding they were anticipating to support their tour did not come through as planned, and that it would have to change the casting and repertoire as well as the financial arrangements of the tour. We worked hard to find an agreeable solution, but in the end it simply was not possible to continue forward."
Renae Williams, Director of Dance Presentations said, "We were looking forward to the Music Center debut of La Scala, and having Diana Vishneva return to the Music Center with this production. It is unfortunate that the tour is not able to take place at this time. We are eagerly preparing for American Ballet Theatre and Complexions in the next two months and to announcing the 2006-2007 season.
All ticket holders are being notified regarding this cancellation.
